Dental bleaching products can change the colour of your teeth, depending on the importance and the cause of the discolouration. This is why a consultation with one of our dentists is essential: Dr. Bella Panjwani will be able to determine whether a bleaching treatment is adapted to your situation and will give you the expected result.
Patients who have received filling or root canal treatments should definitely request professional advice. It is the same for people having dental crowns, since whitening procedures can be applied to vital and non-vital teeth.
Dental crowns are used to reshape partially damaged teeth, while correcting their colour and restoring their function. A crown covers the entire tooth and, with proper care, lasts up to 10 years. The procedure is done under local anesthesia, using an impression of the filed tooth to customize the crown. A temporary crown is provided to the patient until the final one is ready. Crowns can be made with metal, composite, porcelain or a mix of porcelain and metal.
Bridges are permanent restorations that cover the space of one or more missing teeth and are anchored to contiguous healthy teeth or to implants. A mold is prepared to perfectly fit in the patient’s mouth; in the meantime, a temporary bridge is provided. Recommendations from the dentist regarding how to take care of bridges must be followed for a long-lasting result (about 10 years or more).
Veneers are similar to crowns, except that they cover only the visible front part of the teeth. They can be made of composite resin or porcelain. The composite resin veneer can be installed in one visit only and looks completely natural. The porcelain veneer is installed under local anesthesia; a mold is created to customize the veneer. Two visits are necessary for the final veneer to be installed. Obviously, a temporary veneer will cover the tooth being repaired. Porcelain veneers last longer than composite resin ones and can’t get stained.
Don’t hesitate to ask our dentists which one of these treatments is appropriate for you!
